We hope to add pictures and histories of each passenger car in the near future.
ORHS 471 Our EMD GP7u started life as Maine Central 571. She was built by Electro Motive Division in September, 1950 as a GP7. Serial number 12367, Frame number 6152-1, Order number 6152
It was rebuilt by the MEC in 1985 with a new "Super Crew Cab", low hood, and other improvements. It was renumbered 471. It was later repainted for Guilford Transportation after the MEC, B&M, and D&H were merged by Timothy Mellon.
In 1990 Amtrak/Connecticut DOT bought it in 1990 and repainted it to New Haven colors.
It was rebuilt by Amtrak in in 1994 with cab signals, improved controls, and regeared for higher speeds. The 567 engine was replaced with a bigger 645-E.
It ran on the CDOT shoreline until 1998 when it was retired. The ORHS bought it in the spring 2000 for use on excursion trains. At times the W&LE leases it for use on freight trains.
